Workforce Management News: Flexible working is higher employee priority than salary
New report shows that employees consider flexible working more important than their pay in the new workforce landscape
UK law firm Winckworth Sherwood have published a new report examining leadership response to workplace issues caused by coronavirus.
The report, called 'Ethical leadership in a time of crisis', analyses results from a survey of over 1,000 employees and 500 HR decision makers in the UK. Of particular note is the weight given to flexible working by both employees and employers when considering the response to current workforce challenges, and the post-pandemic future.
In a very powerful message, when considering whether to remain with their current employer or move roles, flexibility was recorded as the second-most important factor (at 40%), ahead of even salary (32%). The only factor deemed more important than this was job security, at 51%.
When it came to the top improvements employers could make, ‘having more flexibility in working arrangements’ was the third most popular answer given, behind only ‘communication and engagement’ and ‘to be more compassionate’.
More than half of HR decision makers polled (55%) said that they have offered more flexibility in working arrangements in response to workplace issues. However, with 17% of employees saying arrangements for flexible working could be improved, it suggests that employers could still do more.
The report makes the point that following lockdowns, flexible working has become the new norm and will be much more of an expectation for workers post-pandemic.
