New survey suggests that majority of the UK workforce would prefer to split their time between working at home and the workplace

Architectural and planning firm Gensler have released the results of a recent workforce survey. It shows that when looking to a post-pandemic future, 67% of employees would prefer to spend time working both remotely and in their office.

The survey report, entitled the UK Workplace Survey 2020, looks at results from 2,500 workers across multiple sectors polled in the UK between July and August. Respondents were required to have worked in an office prior to the coronavirus outbreak.

 

Only 12% of those approached want to work at home full time, given the choice. This is in contrast to 34% wanting to work at home one or two days a week, and 33% preferring three or four days working there. The survey report makes the point that the popularity of a hybrid work model is likely due to the fact that it offers benefits from both homeworking and office working, such as increased creativity, social stimulation and a better work/life balance.

 

At the time of the survey, 26% of respondents were working in the office full time, 11% working at home one or two days a week, 15% three or four days, and the remaining 48% were based solely at home.

 

This means that as the country looks ahead to the post-coronavirus business landscape, organisations will have to be ready to meet this challenge of managing a workforce fragmented between physical places of work and working at home.
